Detroit Stockholm presents Släktklenoder by Olle Ekström

”När min mormor hållit sitt första barnbarnsbarn i famnen började jag i en serie målningar fundera över generationsväxlingar, över mormors långa liv och mitt eget hems fysiska spår av det. Mormors egna men även tidigare generationers föremål som hon behållit genom livet, berättat för oss yngre om, lämnat vidare för förvaltning. Släktklenoder som rymmer affektionsvärde, direkt, men även i ett slags andra, tredje, fjärde hand, genom mormors ombud. Kvarlåtenskap förbjuden att avyttra för att den bär på berättelser, ofta om människor jag själv aldrig träffat men vilkas liv osynligt griper in i mitt, historier omgivna av skuggigt töcken. Inte mina minnen, utan mina minnen av mormors minnen, berättelser tagna ur verklighet men som, snart, enbart kommer att kunna upplevas som ett slags fiktion.”

Olle Ekström är född 1986 och utbildad vid Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi i Köpenhamn. Måleri är hans främsta arbetsfält och sedan några år tillbaka bor och målar han i Öved i Skåne.

"When my grandmother held her first great grandchild in her arms, I began a series of paintings in which I explored the switches of generations, my grandmother's long life and the physical traces of it in my own home. My grandmother's own belongings but also those of previous generations that she has kept through life, told stories about for us who are younger, passed on for the sake of safe keeping. Family heirlooms that hold a sentimental value, directly but also in a kind of second, third and fourth hand way, through my grandmother's delegation. Inheritance that is not to be disposed of because it is the carrier of stories, often about people I have never met myself, but whose lives invisibly latch on to mine, stories surrounded by a shady haze. Not my memories, but my memories of my grandmother's memories, stories from reality, but that will soon merely be there for us to experience as a kind of fiction."

Walking Festival of Sound
is a transdisciplinary event exploring the role of walking through and listening to our everyday surroundings. It combines a number of free and public events including walking performances and walking seminars which take place in diverse public spaces around Stockholm. Evening events informed by walking practices take place in various event spaces (see more details in the program section). Walking Festival of Sound facilitates a meeting point for an international network of practitioners and researchers interested in sound and walking. Through diverse events we explore how walking and listening practices can augment and challenge the way we perceive, navigate through, and care for our shared environments.

The Festival will be inaugurated with The Art of Field Recording, sound installation featuring works of various international artists and composers.
