– Music Part III –
Nick Sullivan
4 - 17 August 2025
Detroit Stockholm
Including a site specific work 'An Accumulation Of Stuff'.
The exhibition is part three of the 'Music' trilogy. Inspired by a passion for music and its place in popular culture. Featured in the upstairs gallery are a series of de-faced album covers and one new 'Lyric' painting. The de-faced album covers play on the familiar, with the gentle subversion of instantly recognisable iconographic images of popular music. The 'Lyric' painting along with previous pieces in that series feel personal, nostalgic, the words resonate with feeling, whilst at the same time look almost mechanical in rendition.
The downstairs gallery will feature a site specific large scale collage' An Accumulation Of Stuff' which I will be working on and documenting from the first day of the exhibition. The collage work will be produced in situ and made using discarded black and white photocopies from my studio collection amassed over twenty five years. The black and white imagery has been collated over time as research material and as a 'starting point' for any given project. Representation of this collated imagery has been featured in my work in some form or other over those years.
On Sunday 17th August from 13:00 onwards, the last day of the exhibition at the Detroit gallery I will host a finissage/event, where I will de-construct the large scale collage work directly from the gallery wall. I will then cut up the artwork into A3 sections, sign, date each piece and give them away to anyone who attends. Refreshments may be served, music will be played and a memento can be taken home all are welcome!
