Gordana Zikic & Bosko Begovic

23 August – 4 September 2025

Detroit Stockholm

This exhibition brings together the tactile, embodied approach of Gordana’s large-format raw canvas installations and Bosko’s precise, meditative “Cut” works rooted in martial arts philosophy.
Both practices are united by an exploration of gesture, impermanence, and the transformative potential of process.

Bosko’s project transforms fleeting martial arts gestures into enduring visual forms through deliberate cuts on paper and fabric. Drawing inspiration from the samurai’s disciplined strike, each cut becomes a visual record—fragmented yet intentional—capturing both movement and stillness. The paper cut series, presented as drawings, further highlights this tension, exploring the play of light, shadow, and absence.

Gordana’s work expands drawing and painting gestures into spatial environments. Her large format paintings are created through full-body engagement, movement, sensation, and material exploration. Combining them with smaller, more intimate paintings, she creates immersive, multilayered installations. Inspired by the Japanese kaizen philosophy of continuous small improvements, her process embraces intuition, spontaneity, and the joy of material interaction.

Together, their works explore a dialogue between destruction and creation, precision and spontaneity, trace and presence. The exhibition offers a shared space where cuts and gestures, voids and layers coexist, inviting viewers to reflect on how physicality, repetition, and mindful action leave marks both fragile and profound.

As a special addition, visitors will also be able to see a small selection of wearable art pieces created alongside the works in the exhibition, each echoing the abstract forms and colors of the paintings and drawings.

Bosko Begovic (also known as Mark Fish) is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, and co-founder of several artist-run initiatives, including Center 424, Belgrade Artist in Residence, Whatzart, and Virtual Studio Groups. His work moves between performance, conceptual art, and writing, exploring the idea of “formalizing the nothing.” Through a practice that triangulates theory, movement, and text, he challenges conventional relationships between body, sound, and space, presenting his work in performances, installations, and films across Europe.
