Jenny Soep (Scotland/Sweden) is 'Drawing the Experience'.
Specialising in using live-drawing in different situations - as performance, as a reportage/documentary-illustrator, often focusing on sounds/music, and her #WakingThoughts - a morning practice drawing her dreams, anxieties and regrets.
She has created live drawings for music festivals, cross-innovation conferences, online meetings, as part of theatre
and even projected on Edinburgh Castle for their 'Castle of Light' winter festival. She has drawn the likes of Björk, Patti Smith, Prince (RIP), Primal Scream, boy genius, Mogwai, Youssou N'Dour, Catherine Christer Hennix, Pamela Z, Peter Sheppard Skaerved & Yo-Yo Ma.
In performing drawing she has been part of various collaborations with musicians, dancers, actors,
poets and even a clown, often improvised, and projecting the drawings large for the audience to
see. In her current duo Shapes of Sounds with musician/composer Alexandra Nilsson she has explored
different types of drawing during live improvised concerts, including Swedish ‘filmjölk’ (yoghurt product)
on a window, charcoal/prepared boards with contact mics, and multiple projectors with iPads.
In her ongoing morning-practice series #WakingThoughts, Jenny draws from her dreams, regrets and anxieties.
These have most recently been featured as installations in the exhibitions In The Reach at Detroit Stockholm Gallery, Drawing In at An Tobar, Mull, Scotland, and Falling in Love Outward at Interface, Ireland.
Jenny Soep has been featured in various doctoral theses, and publications such as Gabi Campanario's Sketcher Press/On The Spot as well as Bloomsbury’s Reportage Illustration: Visual Journalism by Gary Embury & Mario Minichiello.
